At one former agency, I was stunned to discover that some outsourced team members had been working on keyword research and link building for some clients for YEARS without ever having had one conversation with their manager about the client’s business, goals, or overall strategy.

Most clients turn to SEO agencies because they need expert guidance and customized strategies to achieve their goals. However, when agencies prioritize scalability over quality, these clients find themselves receiving cookie-cutter solutions that do not align with their specific needs. This can lead to frustration and disappointment as clients see little return on their investment.

One common scenario that I have seen again and again is an SEO agency focusing heavily on generating “traffic” without considering conversion optimization. For example, they might prioritize blog content to boost traffic numbers while neglecting key product or service pages that drive conversions. Clients may see an increase in traffic, but without corresponding growth in leads or sales, the impact on their business is minimal.
